C's Story

Peter and Jean share the transformative journey of their child, C, who, in her early 20s, spent five challenging years in various hospitals far from home.

The distances ranged from 80 to almost 200 miles, significantly impacting the family’s ability to maintain a sense of normalcy and connection.

Through photographs of a beloved tree outside C’s bedroom window, they tried to keep C tethered to the familiarity of home. The turning point came when we intervened, offering a lifeline back to a semblance of everyday life.

The careful and compassionate approach of the team, focusing on small yet significant steps like social interactions and easing the transition from hospital to home, gradually rebuilt C’s hope and confidence. Now back at home, the presence of regular caregivers, likened to extended family, and the freedom to enjoy simple pleasures like the garden, have been pivotal in C’s recovery.

The story highlights the stark contrast between the restrictive hospital environment and the nurturing, personalised care C receives now, allowing them to regain independence, confidence, and continue growing in their own space, surrounded by love and support.
